I’ve just served a Grappa Manhattan and a Cosmopolitan to a young couple on the terrace. Nothing particularly unusual about that, except it’s gone 10pm and they’ve just finished dessert.
It seems this is becoming more common. More and more people are forgoing brandy, port or some other liquor and ordering cocktails after dessert, even to the extent that you’ll offer cocktails to start and they’ll look at each other and say “oh, maybe afterwards” and go straight for the wine.
Nothing wrong with this particularly, but it’s a definite change in trend.
