Talk about double-edged bitter sweet irony.
We had a strange situation tonight – first time in five years. Seba, head chef, was off work unwell, along with the combination sous chef / washer upper / cleaner. This left Michael (second chef) with our emergency washer-upper for when we’re busy.
So, we decided to stay open and wing it, restricting it to reservations only.
Actually the evening went really well. Stephanie and I managed to keep the customers entertained with our witty repartee whilst Michael was an absolute star in the kitchen, producing everything we ordered without a hiccup.
We did, however, disappoint a few people who had turned up without having made reservations. Including a Michelin inspector who happened to choose today to turn up without a reservation…
