I recently came to the blog to look something up and discovered that it had been hacked! Somehow the .htaccess file had been manipulated to redirect stuff to other sites.
I suspect that the hack wasn’t achieved through the WordPress installation, but through another script-based site on the same root domain. Ho hum.
Thanks to the server configuration there was really very little damage that could be done to the rest of the system, but preventing access to the site is enough!
It did prompt me to update WordPress however, which I’ve been meaning to do but hadn’t due to the overly-complex third-party theme I was using. I’d installed this before I got into developing WP themes myself.
Now I’m just on the basic default theme (minus the header image) and at some point I might get around to writing my own, but I’m not sure I particularly need any special branding 🙂
